Sucked up an anchor rope

Fourth of July I sucked up an anchor rope with my 97 GTI. The engine stopped, and I was stuck until the anchor owner cut the rope. He wouldn't let me cut it, afraid I'd lose his anchor. Why he had 20 feet of loose rope dangling off the back of his boat in any case is a good question. It ran ok after that, but seemed down on power. I finally got a chance to look at it, and found 5 1/2 feet of rope twisted around the impeller shaft! I removed the cover plate, and got it unwound in one piece.
Is this a record length?
Actually I was surprised it didn't do any damage, and runs great now.
These old Seadoos are tough! I ran it for about 2 hours that way and even towed a boat for a while.

For future reference, an anchor rope has to be let out 3X the longer than the depth you are anchored in, or the blades won't dig into the ground and "anchor" you.

So if he was in 7 feet of water, 20 feet of rope was about right.

But, I never have thought to worry about anchor ropes when pulling up to the beach. Good thing to think about.

I usually just watch out for ski lines. And stay WAY away from other boats when beaching.

That is correct.... 7' deep.... 20' of rope...I have 250' of rope on my 18' flats boat... You never have enough.. Lol
