i have a 98 GS 717/720 and the exhaust bolts and the manifold bolts on the bottom side keep comeing out, i tried thread locks (both Kind) and high temp atv also to keep them in, neither have worked, im stumpped now, what do i do????

Where the pipe bolts to the exhaust is supposed to be a rubber gromet with a flat washer and bolts thru a sleeve.
This holds the pipe correct distance from exhaust. If missing, bolts break, pipe will not mate flat on top of exhaust.

Clean the threads out and use loctite when installing will also aid in bolt problems.

The biggest problem with seadoo exhaust bolts is that people over tighten them. This causes 2 problems.

1) When everthing get's hot, and expands... if the bolts are TOO TIGHT, they stretch and/or crush the gasket, causing them to become loose when the engine cools. This allows them to rattle loose on the next start up.

2) The hardware is warn out. If the stainless lock washers are not sharp... they can't bite into the bolt heads.

So... what to do????

1) Take it apart, and clean the gasket surfaces.
2) Install new gaskets. (when soft, they provide some flexabillity in the joints)
3) Use new lock washers. (Stainless steel)
4) DO NOT OVER TORQUE THE BOLTS !!!! The torque spec on the exhust for most seadoo's is only 18 Lb/ft. That's less than the spark plugs.

You can also put a little high temp RTV on the threads... but because of the heat, most thread lockers will just break down, so they are useless in the exhaust system.

the bolts for the manifold to the engine pushed out, those are my main concern, i used high temp atv on the mani to pipe on top with lock washers its workn out ok , besides i snapped that little stud off of there, imma wingn it with the three on top now

I think both (one for sure) of the 2 front manifold bolts have broken off. I fired it up and saw water running out the front of the manifold - that's when I realized I was missing 2 bolts & not just one. Assuming I don't snap the back 2 off to remove the manifold (I'm guessing an impact will help that), I'm guessing that I need a new gasket & probably 4 new bolts & lock washers. My DILEMNA is, how the heck do I even get the front 2 bolts in, much less tightened? It looks like there's about 1/4 inch of clearance to work with. Please help! I'm a 2-stroker from way back but brand new to Seadoo's.

Thx!

buddy of mine had same problem on an hx do what bill said.it fixed his problem now bolts stay in place

I had a lot of problems with the bolts on the tuned pipe coming loose on one of the engines on my Sportster, no matter what I did it would not stay tight.. The engine was fine if I didn't run it too hard, once I did they would loosen. At this point I think I have it fixed, This may be extreme, but it worked. I drilled and tapped the holes to fit a 7/16-20 bolt, I used allen caps.. I did not change the size of the stud, but used a nylon lock nut on it. I put red locktite on the bolts and torqued them down. I now have then marked so I cam make a quick check to see if they move, I been out three times with not problems, and I have ran it really hard.. I have 3 skis and the boat, this is the only motor that has given me problems, and yes they have all been apart. This one did not act up until I pulled it to have the plugs welded..
