Stumped. Started and ran then died. Now no lights or crank

Getting my 96 xp unwinterized to ride on Christmas Day. I had it start twice then noticed my plugs were not in tight and it started spitting oil. Tightened them down and started it again. Started fine and as I went to give it some throttle to clean the oil out of the crank(leaky crank seal) it died upon throttle. Now I don’t get any dash lights beeps or crank. Battery cables are on the right post and tight. Any ideas what happened?

I'd first check the plug at the stator, make sure it didn't vibrate loose after it started. Ck the ground at the starter also. How's the battery voltage? Ck all grounds and other plugs like the DESS post, unusual it was running and now it's suddenly electrically dead.

Thanks for the info. I went and checked ground in black electrical box and for shits and giggles checked fuses. Blew the vts fuse. It’s done that once to me before over the summer. Swapped fuses and got power back. Now when you go to give it throttle sounds like rectifier is bad. Which is weird because I replaced the rectifier earlier this year with one from Nick at OSD marine. It’s also weird because there is no spark when hooking up ground cables to battery so no real draw on the battery. I must have some sort of electrical gremlin in there somewhere

The VTS is known to fry MPEMS and could have popped the regulator.

Unplug all wires to the VTS and the red wire on the regulator and see how it does. If it’s good then try reconnecting the red wire and try again.

Not sure on the voltage. It was 10:30 at night when I got it fired up again. I’m just going to unplug vts and swap rectifier out of my other xp
