Strange Marks on Rotary Valve Cover

Hi! I recently bought a new rotary valve and cover and was looking for any tips anyone might have as well as, Why are there a groove on each side of the cover?

That cover is no good and it won't run good. It had something get stuck in there and grind the grooves into it. You will have to have it machined and the o-ring groove or replace it. I would order a new one from SBT and send that one in as a core.

I did buy a new cover, and rotary valve, but I was wondering what those 2 grooves in it are for.
 
If you are talking about the "V" grooves they are to spread out the injector oil.
 
Yes they are. That stainless steel rotary valve is spinning fast between two pieces of aluminum. It needs lube.
