Strange hesitation

So I took my 1995 xp up to Torch Lake(if you haven't seen it check it out) in northern michigan last week on vacation. She ran great all week except every so often I would get a weird hesitation when I hit the throttle. So much so that a couple times I would bury the throttle and nothing. Would just seem like it was loading up for some reason. Then it would clear up and run great. Any ideas?

That's a loaded question here. It could be a multitude of things. I would Start by checking the easy stuff first.

Entire Fuel System including Carbs, Lines for Blockage, Pulse line good, Fuel Selector Switch and so on.

Compression on Engine

Wear Ring and Jet Pump. ( You did not say if you had RPM's and Hesitation )

I did all said stuff about 10 riding hours ago. The hesitation is only from a dead stop at idle. Worst one lasted about 20 seconds. Pumping throttle and nothing. Just idle

Was the loading up right after you started it? Could be the needle/seat leaking when it's shut off, and its loaded up for a few seconds after startup, or they're not seating back at idle and idling rich so it loads up.

Loads up during idle. Example I was idling in no wake to get fuel at marina. Shut it off and filled up. Started backed up idled out of no wake. Hit the the throttle and nothing. Once it cleared up it ran fine. Would randomly do this. No rhyme or reason. Always from idle to throttle.

I do notice it smoking alot and plugs have been a tad on wet side. Haven't done a wot plug check yet to be sure. Did put new ngk br8es's in before this trip.

Sounds like its just a little fat at idle and its loading up. It could be that the center seals are starting to let go and the vacuum at idle is sucking oil past the seals and its fouling the plugs.

Well if you are pulling the carbs go ahead and see where the pop off is at and make sure the needle isn't leaking. With the carbs assembled it should hold 10 psi for 30 seconds. If not it will flood the motor after warm shutdown and make hard starting afterward. Pop off should be 16-21psi for twin carbs and the low speed needle should be 1 1/8th out.
