I have a 98 GSX ltd. I have tested the battery, charged the battery, put a new battery in it, checked all fuses, ran another ground off the battery, I even found another MPEM off of a 99 xp limited and tried it. I'm on the lake and the ski just quits all of a sudden, and never once has it shown any sign of electrical life. Ever since this has happenned nothing electrical has worked on the ski.

This is where I think I have narrowed it down to:

1. Replace the tether switch and get a new key
2. Test the MPEM

any other suggestions? I don't know how to test the MPEM to see if it is working, please help, I need to be on the water next weekend and there are no close by dealers that will look at it. The closest is about 3 hours away.

I can say with 93% certainty that its the stator. Basically like the alternator of a jetski. About 120 dollars and you have to remove the exhaust pipe and 8 bolts to replace it ... not super hard. I have done it before.

Could also be your key post. Does it just start right back up after dying? Clean your key and post with an eraser

Yeah, to test hook up the battery cable (positive) with voltmeter. Should be 13.5 or higher. If it's lower then I would definitely go new stator.

Stator

Is there an average life span for a stator. Is there a ballpark number that it usually dies at from normal operating hours??

Have you looked inside the electrical boxes, they have seals to keep out water but once you have opened a few of them you know they do not work as well as engineers hope, let them dry out and search each of the plugs for corrosion and repair as needed - I have dipped the connectors into coffee cups of CLR to make them legible again, hose away the green goop until cleared out.
