I am having to replace the steering cable on a 2000 GTI and I was wondering if anyone may know how i should go about reinstalling the cable as far as making the right adjustments to it.

Frozen cable?

Read the Manual on the R&R. At rear jetpump diconnect from the nozzel, inside compartment by that, loosen the nut at the thru hull, go back to rear and pull back the collar where it goes tru the hull and then the inside nut is a two piece wrap that
splits away, then remove the cables end so the cable can be pulled thru from inside. Take the front basket out to find the steering disconnect and note the adjustment, then remove cable. If your cable is frozen it can be freed up by twisting, then grease it after liberal movement. Bills86e

Thanks for the reply,
I have already removed the cable but I was wondering if the lock nutt cable should be the last thing to tighten.

After laying the new cable in hull, re-attach the rear components first, then when attaching front, you can eyeball both nozzel & steer-bar straight and make any final adjustment for center, left & right turning alignment. Bill

Thanks for the reply Bill,
That makes sense. I appreciate the help. I wasn't sure if I shoud try to make the adjustment at the front first and then tighten the back down or vise versa. Thanks

I advise grease. I like on all linkages, carb body & cables, intake grate prop wear ring
(helps debris tru).
