I have a 98 XP LTD. It quit abruptly in the middle of the lake. It was blowing the battery fuses and would not even turn over. I read the forum and saw it could be the stator. Got the stator out and there was a piece of metal bridging 2 coils. Removed the metal piece and everything seems to be working right. There is no continuity and the ohms are between .1 to 1.0 ohms. Couldn't find where the metal came from. My question is should I buy a new stator or will the old one be ok since the metal is gone?

I have the same question also. Is it better to replace the stator since it got shorted out by a piece of metal or is it ok to put it back in as long as all of the testing specs check out ok? The stator doesnt have any abnormal scratches nor does the flywheel it sits in.

Stator Question

Can somebody please reply to this post. I am not looking for someone to tell me what to do in this case since right now I am leaning towards reusing the old stator, just wondering if anybody else has had this issue and what they did and if it worked out for them. Thanks..Randy

You must find out where the piece of metal came from. Remove the flywheel and the starter reduction gear and carefully inspect everything.
