Starting issue after cleaning carbs

2001 RX, removed the carbs to clean fuel filters and replaced the fuel lines b/c the ski's ketp shutting off on me. Anyways, put everything back together and push the button and I all hear is a clicking/grinding noise from the starter relay switch. I replaced it with a new one and I get the same results. Any ideas?

wires clean and tigh with dielectric...starter in good shape? check your grounds

I believe the starter to be perfectly fine. It started without issues before cleaning the carbs. I can say that the electrical box was full of water when I pulled the cover. Everything in there appears to be rusted. I have not re-crimped the power cables though, just replaced the starter solenoid. I can't figure out if enough juice is making it to the starter? I know the battery is fully charged (its new). Could a wire have been easily knocked off from removing the air box? I wouldn't think the power wire or harness to the starter would be that easy to knock loose?

i dont know about being "knocked loose", wow. full of water...i would clip all wires re-crimp them the right was make sure box is dry inside, make sure all connections are clean and tight with dielectric grease...why is it "full" of water, did somebody submurge the ski enough to fill it up???? if so, i would take the starter off take it to the auto store and have it load tested...and probably disassemble it and make sure it's all dry inside....

I'm not sure why it was full of water. I bought 2 ski's from a dealer here in GA and got to enjoy 2 hours out of one of the skis. This particular one cut out on me within 20 minutes! The fuel filters in the carbs were clogged worse than any I'ver ever seen. Hence the reason for replacing the fuel lines and cleaning the carbs. Anyways, I know that this particular ski was left in salt water which I assume is why there is so much corrosion in the electric box, that and b/c of the water. But like I said, I didn't have a problem starting the ski prior to replacing the fuel lines and cleaning the carbs. My only guess would be that the water in the electric box was allowing the system to work as normal. Remove the water and expose the problem!
Is there a wrong way to connect the battery cable and starter cable to the starter relay?

put voltmeter to post with battery lead, should have the 12-ish v, then with start button depressed, the other post should read same thing. If so, replace the cable going to starter from relay.

I will give that a try thanks! Does anyone know if it matters which location the battery cable and the starter cable are connected on the relay?

make sure, if the red wire is there, inside the rear ebox, that it is installed on the relay post, same side as the cabel from battery....the cables to the relay are installed/bent inna way, that they can only reach a certain post, on the relay.

Unfortunately the cables were long enough to reach either post. I did however try the cables in either location. I did keep the smaller wire on the same post that the battery cable was connected to.
