How hard is it to change the starter on a XP DI ?? I have done one on a GSX Limited by just removing the carbs but I have never messed with a DI engine. I assume the throttle bodies are almost the same to remove as carbs?? Will the pipe need to be removed due to the fact that there is less room to work? Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

On the carb XP, you do not remove the pipe or carbs to replace the starter.

slide aside oil tank, remove air horns, remove air box, remove 10mm nut on starter +, remove 2 6mm bolts that hold starter in place (I think they are 6mm), ta-da,

Hmmm, doesnt look like much room but I am down to try. If I do pull the throttle bodies for a bit more room, since its a DI, is there anything special I need to watch out for?

Not that I know of. the XP is a pretty easy to work on ski. reattach the air box lower bracket correctly, as it's reversed from your GSX.

Im pretty sure its the starter but let me know what you think. New fresh battery when you hit the start button all it does is click once from the front e box and nothing. You can hear the fuel pump fire up and you get a double beep when you connect the dess key. With the key attached I jumped the starter solenoid and the starter did not turn over. I am able to move the shaft at the motor by hand as well so I know the motor is not locked up.

Ok well I got the starter out. What a pain a DI engine is to work on. Anyways, I pulled it out and found rust has frozen the motor. I can only assume water is all in the front cover. The ski was used 4 weeks ago and was fine, it was parked and when we went to start it nothing happened. Should I just slap the new starter in and call it a day or do you think there is a bigger issue somewhere? Both O rings were on the starter and it was a tight fit. The ski was never sunk or anything.

You have water in the magneto cover.

you'll have to pull the magneto cover.

Done correctly, and if you can suspend the engine from above for a while, you don't have to remove the pipe.

The stator will go next, and with a DI cause all sorts of fun problems when it rusts and shorts out.

Yea I called they guy and told him the great news. I just dont have the time to mess with it and I also found out water was up over the engine. It took almost 3 conversations to finally tell what really happened.

lol...

it just needs a starter!

and an engine, and jet pump, and carbs, and fuel lines, and fuel, and a seat, and guages, and a new MPEM...

it worked FINE when put away.... after my kid sank it in '05.

that's crazy... why would nt he tell you from the start? you didn't buy it, right? you were just trying to help HIM out?

No I didnt buy it........No clue, he isnt the first to not spill all the info at once. One guy stated it just stopped running and didnt mention he sucked up a rope and tried to cut it out or on another that it caught fire and the wires were just melted.

Retards, I see them everywhere! I know how to ride! Then I see them tipping it back over when they did a tail flip parallel to a wave. Now the Ski is full of water and they say not a word. It will not start. Buy it off me.
