Hey,
I have a 97 speedster with 2 700 rotax motors. Pulled safety lanyard and starboard starter was still engaged. Pulled battery cables to shut down starter. Touched battery cables and starter engaged again. Safety lanyard was not attached. Pulled power to starboard motor and tried to start port motor, nothing happens. Connected lanyard and no beeps. Anybody have some advice. Just got some great weather up here in Upper Michigan and would like to use my boat without bringing it in.
Thanks
Pete

Check all the fuses and connections, and the solenoid on the engine that is "self engaging"... but it sounds like the MPEM went bad. (sorry)

Testing MPEM??

How can I test the MPEM? Should I buy a new solenoid first and see if that solves the problem? Is there a way to test to see if solenoid is bad?
Pete

The easiest test for the condition of stater engaged would be to swap the good side with the faulty one, wrap the original good battery cable with tape to prevent arcing unless you want to go thru the complete swap - it seems like the solenoid is stuck from age/rusty internal somethin g or the mpem is telling it you are holding down the crank button - which could be something under the dash, did you have any stereo wiring changed this year - maybe somehow there are wires with cracked covering touching, take a good look under the dash and then swap the relays to isolate good/bad.
