So, I realize that the starting thread was getting a little long, and boring. Here is what is going on with the SPX now.

First, after getting it all together, I hand turned the PTO and the pto side piston (REAR) the RAVE is clicking in against the cap. I believe that it is on the intake stroke. Any ideas?

Second, here are some pictures of the engine pre-install, and installed.

Then, the gift that keeps on giving, the last picture is the VTS. I plugged in the lanyard, (NO BEEPS by the way) and tried the trim. Click, Click. So I pulled the cover off, and this is what I got.

So, now off the vts comes to see what I exactly need in the way of parts.

Crazy. But Fun.

Thanks,

JD

Yeah, have sunk some $$$ into it. It is a really clean boat, other than the rust. Been a learning experience though, if I came across another, I would do it again.

I seem to find one project a year. This year I picked up a 98 GTX limited w/blown engine for 500. A freind just finished rebuilding it for me. Last year I found a 92 GTS wih a brand new SBT motor non running, a Tigershark with a leaky driveshaft, and a real nice double trailer in Prineville for $1200. I put $100 in each, got them running perfect, and sold each for $1000 and kept the trailer. I wish I could find more deals like that.

I here ya. I looked at the tiger shark, I just can't get into the styling.

Would have loved to pick up a gsx or xp limited. I had a 98 xp limited in the past, wife and I absolutely loved it.

Oh well, I will keep on looking.

Got the spx running tonight, sounds great. Hope to hit the water this weekend.

So, took the ski up to a small lake nearby to give it a go. I keep having to pour fuel down the carbs to get it started. Will not keep fuel in the lines.

Anyway, fired it up and then I realized that the guy who was helping me put it together, forgot to put the O-rings around the plugs in between the two part head!

So back home, split the head, yep no o-rings. Put the ones in I bought on the way home just in case I couldn't find the ones that came with the top end kit.

Put the ski back in on Saturday, again with the pouring of fuel for the carbs. But once I got it going, started up every time.

Noticed though that fuel is out of the lines again tonight.

Also, serious bog when trying to throttle up. Read Snipes post on the accelerator pump, mine is sticking. So I am pulling off the carbs and going through them this week. Putting in a primer kit as well.

Question though. On the VTS that is rusted out, is there anyway to check the module to see if it is ok? I am going to pull out the motor after the season, and want to make sure that the module is working.

When pushing the vts button, I can here clicking at the vts, hope that is a sign that the mod is working.

Also, thinking of tracking down a used quick-trim set up from R&D. Anyone ran this set up before? I assume that I will have to run new handle bars as well as a finger throttle if I go that route.

Thanks in advance for the help,

JD

one other thing, I was amazed that when I was at the small lake on friday, a little kid, average kid, not high and mighty, there with his average dad, took a look at my ski and said "Dad, that ski is going to leak and hurt the lake." dad says, "son all boats leak, even new ones."

the guy looked lost. I know he could not believe what was coming out of his kid's mouth, but he did not counter this type of thinking!

Kid was all of 5-7 years old. I guess I know what they are teaching is school, not the basics that I, or anyone my age was taught. I was amazed. I take extra care to be a good steward of the lake, and land for that matter. But I cannot believe these kids are so brainwashed like this.

Maybe I am making too much about this.
