I need some help i believe i spun the impeller, i had it wide open and then it just coasted engine reved and no go, Has this happen to anyone, how could the impeller in any jet boat just loose splines? im looking for a cause, for before i spend money on a impeller and it gets messed up,

1997 Seadoo challenger 14.5' I can use a impeller!

Thanks for the help guys

wow

never heard of that. Have you looked in there to see if any blockage and if you can spin the impeller without engine turning over?

If this thing has spun you more than likley have a billion shavings in the pump and damaged your shaft as well. You should tear this baby down and inspect, clean to the T. May consider just rebuild the pump with new shaft, thrust washer, bearings, seals. If you really spun the impeller. Got to get all the shavings out out or will premature end to your new guts :(

A small 1" long stick, stuck in the impeller, can cause the same problem. Check your impeller closely. I doubt you "spun" the impeller.

:agree:

are you saying you stripped the drive shaft or the impeller? or are you saying you broke the fins off impeller?

Ive seen them strip out aluminum impellers, but there is no need to change the pumpor bearings as long as they check out.

Need more info.

spun impeller

when i got back i took 5min and took the pump out, the impeller is spun their are no splines on the inside but the shaft is still good or it still has splines on it, im really just trying to find the cause of this?

if it were me

I would rebuild the entire pump. You can get everything you need new from sbt or just go oem (thats what I did).

as long as it spins free, no need to rebuild the pump! the splines are on a completely different location than the oil or bearings...

If this is an after market impeller, aluminum... there are several reasons it would strip, first being engine alignment, second a flaw in the impeller, third, rope or something wedged in the impeller one to many times, worn drive shaft, etc etc etc ....

first pull the drive shaft and look at the splines on the impeller end and compare to the PTO end. If they look good, next step is to roll the drive shaft on the ground and see it it is bent. if all of the above checks out get an alignment tool and check the alignment of the motor... If that is good, buy a new impeller checking to get correct pitch for your application, Install and enjoy....

Are there rubber bumpers on each end of the shaft? If one of these are missing, it will wear out the splines in the impeller and on the shaft. Post some pictures of the shaft splines.

I don't envy you for trying to pull the impeller off the pump with now splines to use for the tool! I guess you can wedge something into the impeller fins and use that. The thing is toast anyways.
Have you had the pump off recently? Did you forget to put grease on the splines?
