This maybe should have been put in the trailer forum but I wanted advice specific to sportster trailering.

What size tires (and weight rating) are on a factory trailer sold with sportsters? I have a 95 sportster that came with a trailer that is bigger than a factory sportster trailer and I am in the process of getting back to factory specs.

Thanks

I think it was 4.80 wide, and a "C" load range. But 5.30 tires will fit, and give you a bit more load.

Thanks, that is helpful but you wouldnt happen to know the actual tire diameter as well would you? Trying to get a factory looking fender as well.

Nope... it's not part of the sizing... and I've never measured one. The stock fenders are just basic, plastic boat fenders for a 12" tire/wheel.

my factory seadoo trailer for my 95 speedster takes 5.30-12 tires.. i found on craigslist & just picked up two BRAND new carlisle tires mounted on brandy new white five spoke style rims for $50... awesome deal i was so happy

Yep... good price.

If you have a Harbor Freight tools local to you... you can catch them on sale (5.30-12, load "c") for about $45 each... and if you get a 20% off coupon, it gets even better.

i wish, i love harbor freight... only recieve the catalog :(

sad truth is that tractor supply was asking $65 for ONE tire of that size... that's right, one tire no rim no nothing... man was i happy to see that craigslist post.. it was an old one too i got lucky double time!

95sportster you should check craigslist for fun!

You could try Northern Tool, I picked up a spare trailer tire for a 2001 Sportster LE trailer for $80 with rim. I didn't look at the price for just the tire.

I actually already ordered some from Northern Tool. But I was second guessing the size I chose which is why I started this thread. I got these http://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...00330240?cm_mmc=Housefile-_-RECD-_-707-_-CONF tires without realizing they were load B. I think I am going to cancel the order and get these from Harbor Frieght http://www.harborfreight.com/53-inch-x-12-inch-6-ply-tire-with-5-lug-rim-92470.html It looks like these are the right load/weight capacity but I have no idea what the diameter of them is. Any one else know? The whole point of me buying tires is to go slightly smaller and put some fenders on the trailer. Currently the tires are too big and there are no fenders on it leaving only about 1.5 inches between them and the boat.

Those are the tires you need. and they are a STD diameter for a 12" trailer tire.

If you go smaller... the trailer may not be stable. You can get the 8" tires if you want to change everything... but they spin so fast at highway speeds... I don't think it would be safe for a boat trailer.

OK... a two minute internet search got me the answer.

Depending on the manufacture... they are 20.5" to 21.9"

I found tires from 20" on up to 23" in that size. But regardless, Ill take a chance on them being around 21" since that does seem to be the majority. The current ones are 25.5" so that should give me somewhere around 2" difference in radius. Should be enough to slide in a fender.

Thanks for the help.
