I just got around to installing my beachhouse sponsons on my 99 spx and was wonder if I have to put the styrofoam back in? It's kinda chewed up and messed up now sense it was a royal PITA getting it out..

The difference will be sunk vs swamped. LOL

exactly, the foam is in there so that you could in theory pull the seat off and plugs out and it wouldn't sink with a full fuel and oil load. its required by the USCG for vessels under a certain length to have enough flotation built in. this keeps a minor inconvenience from becoming a salvage job.

BUT - the likelihood of that happening is fairly small, just be aware of it. when i did the beach house sponsons on my gtx i worked around the foam as nasty as it was, because i knew that it would be the ski that friends would ride, so if things went pear shaped out on the lake, i don't have to worry about my friends sinking my stuff to the bottom of the lake.

think you won't sink your ski? sometimes its not your choice that does it, our neighbor got hit by a friend on their friends ski out on the lake, put a big hole in the side of their polaris sl750, and they made it back almost to the dock before the motor injested water and died, then the thing was swamped. the flotation let them get it on a lift and drain the water out, clear the motor, and get it running again for a kamikaze run to the boat ramp. without the flotation they'd be calling in a salvage crew to pull it out, which would be $$$.

Well I do have a rule bilge pump but I'm thinking I may just piece the pieces of styrofoam back together then shrink wrap it and put it back in place the best I can

hmm,i just put sponsons on the 95xp.the foam was a total pita! I didn't put it back in,but was wondering if anyone has used the expanding foam, like they sell at home depo?sure would like my kids ski to float if he goes tits up on it!!

I would think it would help at the very least. I would wrap/heat shrink whatever I did as it would keep it together and help from absorbing oil/water which would have to help even more I would think.
