Spi?

I don't see much discussion on SPI models which I'm assuming is because they're basically the same as other models during that time. But if I'm looking to work on my ski I need to make sure I'm doing the right thing on my particular model. Suppose I need to replace impeller, for example, on my SPI but my instructions are from SPX, or SP, or whatever.

So, my question is: what specific models can I be certain are interchangeable with my 95 SPI? Is there a cross reference list here or something I can plug in to , to make sure there is COMPATIBILITY.

THANKS MUCH

I tried the search function for an answer but no luck.

The 95' SPI is basically an SP with a couple more options. If I remember correctly the SPI came with more gauges and a stainless steel prop. It still uses the single carb 580 engine as the SP. The 580 was the smallest engine Seadoo made but was very reliable. The SPI is not very powerful but very light so it is pretty fun considering what it is.

What parts were you looking to interchange? All seadoo's of that vintage use pretty much the same parts for fuel, oil and propulsion systems.

Just for future reference, and especially when replacing nonworkng with working parts from other skis. And should I always stick to oem parts to be on the safe side?

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I love what I hear about the ease of working on this engine and components. It's my first time and honestly, I have no idea where to start

Some things should only be OEM such as ON/OFF valves, starters and carb kits.

Again, what are you trying to interchange?

Your ski uses the 580 engine so basically any "white" 580 parts will work.
All seadoos with the 787 and smaller engines up to 1998 use the same fuel filter, oil filter, ON/OFF valve, carb kits, wear rings.
Your hull is basically a the 1993 XP, 94'-96' SP/SPI, 95'-99' SPX & 95'-96' XP.

Not sure what else you want to interchange.

You answered my question, and thanks. There are several miscellaneous items that need replaced on the skis, not just mechanical components as you mentioned. For example, there are a few plastic trim pieces, the handle bar on one ski is slightly bent, etc. There's a boat shop down the road from my house that's has lots of various parts, not just engines, fuel filters, oil filters, etc. and I'd like to understand which models I can work with beforehand. Hopefully that explains it a bit better. If not, I'll learn eventually how to be more specific with my inquiries.

Good info to know, thanks.

I can't recommend Minnetonka4me here enough for used parts. Always perfect condition great prices and stands behind everything he sells.

Now that's even better information to know. Thanks. I downloaded the manuals, also, to help with identifying parts and just learning basic knowledge of this sruff. Looking forward to this project/new hobby. Sure is long overdue for me to have something enjoyable to mess around with

The older SPI's all started life as an SP, the SPI kits came in a box, there were different mods for different year skis , all SPI's got a stainless steel impeller and new decals, on some years you have to remove the exhaust pipe and drill and tap the exhaust for a water fitting, the hull was drilled and a rear grab handle was installed.

I believe it was in 1994 that the a SPI arrived from Bombardier already assembled in the crate.

I also have a '95 SPi. It's my understanding that most of the SPi's started their lives as rental skis.

Not true at all. They are just the base model entry level ski. Almost all the rentals back in the day were the Three seaters.
Nothing wrong with a SPI but they were the smallest engine in a light weight hull.

No problem. The SPI is a great ski for what it is. They are light, playful and peppy but they only do about 45mph. The good thing is they are stone cold reliable.
Make sure the fuel system is clean and serviced, run the correct API-TC oil and replace the small 3/32" oil lines and she will treat you right for years to come.
