MY buddy has a 96 or 97 speedster or sportster,, its identical to my speedster but only 1 engine. He needs a new engine,,someone ( not me) never winterized it 4 years ago. Anyway...I'm not sure which engine is in it,, but its the single,, so i'm guessing its bigger than my 85hp's. Are these engines easily interchangable by year ? or at all? Some local dealer quoted him $4K for a new engine NOT INSTALLED ! Obviously this is unacceptable.. We need a new (used running) engine. Any suggestions from anyone? Thanks to all,,,,,

hey stinger....does it look like the engines in your boat, if not, then its probably a "challenger" with the 787/800cc motor...and yeah, easily interchangable with the right motor.

rebuilt engine

I have a 96 sportster with a single 717. I just had mine rebuilt and it only cost me $750 and no core charge because they rebuilt my motor. The round trip shipping cost m an additional $100 but I thought I got a good deal.

The copany is called fullboreonline.com check them out.

thanks to all,, I wont get to see this engine untill monday,, he told me its leaking from almost every seal and gasket. Its out of the boat now. I offered him my spare 500 mercruiser for my big boat,,,but he's just chicken!!!!
