Speedster able to plane out w/ just one engine???

Reading through some old threads I had seen a comment about being able to plane out with just one motor.... Is this true?

I had badly flooded out a motor and had to limp home w/ one motor, but with even throttling it up to 7k it didn't feel like I would've ever plane out (3 people on board). I have been on the fence about rebuilding the top ends, which both seem to run great w/ 130ish PSI, but will 20 more PSI really make that much of a difference?

I've already rebuilt -carbs -drivelines -head gaskets -wear rings

Yes... a '96 speedster should easily plane out on one engine. 130 psi is low, and it's time to get it rebuilt. BUT... if you are getting to 7k RPM on that engine... then you should be up on a plane. I would say your carbon seals are bad, and they are sucking air.

Just an FYI... you shouldn't try to go fast on one engine, because you are still pushing water into the engine that isn't' running. Because of that... you will fill that engine, and it's exhaust full of water. (you have to block off it's water line) if you didn't... then make sure that engine isn't sitting full of water. (and rotting)

Dr Honda I have brand new carbon rings, any other ideas? I know about blocking off the "downed motor, but in this case there was already water in the cylinders... I guess maybe I had a lot of weight - 3 people, full cooler and beach stuff, even with a lot of weight do you think it would still pick up a good speed?

Dunno...My 95 speedster couldn't get up on plane with one engine, same scenario, 3 people, cooler and bunch of stuff, maxed out rpm but couldn't fully get on plain, these boats are underpowered as it is..Being down and engine doesn't help..

You have to remember these are two stroke. They do don't have the torque we want like 4 stroke.
I think our boats are good once out of the hole then up to top speed.
Kill an engine be glad you made it home. I wouldn't risk running only running engine at 7k rpm for a long period of time to get it plane.

This is what I figured and why I started this thread, with both running the boat runs like a champ, but man what a long drive home on one motor! Another thing I keep thinking is doesn't the sportster only have one 2 stroke motor?

Difference years different size boat
Its torque or speed. and two stokes are speed.
I ride atvs and basically I like 4 stokes for mud but those banshee run like a bat at of hell of the expressway

look into Seatow. not bad to have just in case.
Making my preparations to go to sanibel in june.

Plus, having the pump/engine on the side probably cuts down on the power and increases drag compared to a single..

Same issue here, when my exhaust manifold bolts came loose I shut down the engine and ran on one home, there's no was I was getting on plane and I was by myself.
