I want to speed up and increase the performance of my 1997 sea doo gti, what are some good ways to do this, preferably cost effective.

Buy a faster ski. BRP does a good job of getting maximum performance and reliability from their products, there's not much you can do. The only mod. that I would suggest is a performance intake grate, makes handling better. "If you want a faster ski, buy a faster ski."
