I need your help, because I have received conflicting info or incorrect spark plugs from SeaDoo dealer in NC. I have a 2003 GTX Van and 2003 XP. I ride them 20-40 hours a season, I know not much. But I have to replace the spark plugs 1-2 times a season. When I talked to the dealer about them, they said that I could try a "hotter plug". However, I tend to be a "by the book" kind of guy, expecially when it comes to something that I do not fully understand. Can you please tell me what plug, model, gap, I should use for my 2 ski?

Also, it seems to me that whenever I crank them up for the first time, after being winterized it fouls the plugs, which makes sense to me. However, after doing this a time or two, I leave the old plugs in, crank it up run it, they foul and then I put new plugs ins. Is this a good practice. As you can tell, I am not the most technical guy on the lake. Thanks so much and for not laughing me off the forum.

If you haven't done any mod's... use the factory recommended plugs, and ride it a little harder to keep them clean.

I don't recommend going to a hotter plug unless you have a reason to. But yes... a hotter plug will help it self burnt clean.

One thing to check... make sure your oil pump is adjusted properly, and that you aren't pumping too much oil at idle. also, what kind of oil are you using?

I was gonna give you some correct spark plug numbers but I'm confused as to what model SeaDoos you have. What is a GTX Van? Is it a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? The XP .... is it a DI?

Thank you for your help

Thank you. The GTX in 2003 has a "Vans edition" which is a specialize "boat" for wakeboarding. It is a 4 stroke. I actually believe that I have found that the proper plug is a NGK DCTR8E. The 2003 XP is DI, which I believe is the only option in that year. I have also been doing some digging and found the proper plug for that unit is the NGK ZFR4F11. Do you know if NGK the best / only mgf for plugs like this. I do not know of them, but that does not mean anything. Thanks again for your help.

Dr Honda, Thank you for your insight. I will look into that, but it seems to be more related to having the engine "fogged" for the winter. Once that stuff burns off the plugs seem to be fine. In my other post, I have found the proper plugs and will crank them this weekend and work on them. Thanks again.
