I have a 2004 Sportster 4 TEC and I want to get a spare set of plugs.

Seadoo uses NGK's

There are two types of NGK plugs for my boat but only one works.

One has the screw off cap and the other doesn't.

What is the plug number for the one that has the screw off end?

there isn't a number change. The box is just marked "Solid Terminal."

You can use a screw on terminal without any problems... just make sure you tighten it with pliers before using them. More than once, I've see the threaded terminals vibrate loose, and cause poor performance.

I use threaded terminal plugs all the time.

The wires on the 4 TEC have the spring clips and not the round circular metal clips like regular car plugs. The spring clips won't grab the plugs with caps on them.

At least I didn't think they were grabbing.

When you put the wire on with no caps you hear a griding noise and it's locked on solid.

My VW Bus has the same type wires and you have to remove the caps to install them.

I am am still confused.

OK... I see what your are saying. So, what are you confused about? Get the plugs with the removable terminal, and take them off. (or am I missing something?)

The problem is, I want to order them off the internet.

If I use the number NGK DCPR8E which is the right number for my motor, how will I know if they have the screw off cap or the solid cap.

The guy who works on my boat just had this problem. He ordered 6 plugs for my boat. 3 came in with the screw off caps and 3 with a solid cap, same number. He took the solid caps back and now I am hunting replacements.

When searching on the internet for plugs for my 4 TEC they call for a solid plug, which doesn't work on my boat. Evidently some boats have a screw connector and some have a clip connector. What a PITA.

Thanks for your help I just may have to shop local.

Now I have a new number to look for. NGK 4339

I just went throgh this last week with my 04 speedster 200. The DCPR8E comes in two types a 4179 that has a solid non removable top. I needed the 4339 type that has the top that screws off. I checked several auto parts stores and found only Advanced Auto stocked them. My store had the 4179 but was out of the 4339. They were able to get me 6 from another store by noon the next day for $19.60. Not a bad price for 6 plugs. Good Luck.
