Spark Issues

Hey,
I haven't yet solved my problem....which I orig treated as a fuel delivery problem. It now appears to be electrical.

I have a spark issue on my '97 challenger single eng 800. There is weak spark on one side (closest to back), and no spark on the other. I have clipped wires, new plugs, changed the ignition coil. Is there anything else I should try before getting into removing the stator?

I took it to the dealer hoping they would troubleshoot, but they refused to do anything before replacing the raves at a cost of $800.00, which seems crazy. No doubt the raves are worn, but I can replace myself....simple set up. How do worn raves affect the boat's engine/performance?

Thanks in advance,

Rocky

These engines have a weak spark, so as long as you are getting a spark... you should be OK.

The side with no spark... before replacing the coil, you should have removed the MAG cover. The 800 engine has a tendency of the pick-up coil breaking from it's mount. When that happens... no spark.

What/where is the mag cover located? And when you refer to the pick-up coil, are you talking about the stator/assembly? If it breaks from its mount is it repairable?
