Some questions about 97 GTI

I rebuild my 97 gti carb and did the full system. Filter, selector valve hoses, used an osd kit all genuine mikuni parts. Following the carb sticky to the letter and I had the same issue. Hesitation off idle. If I feathered it it ran pretty good. 34 psi pop off. I eventually was able to solve it by adjusting my low speed out 2/3 of a turn from stock settings.

If the 3 little pilot transition holes are not perfectly clean you will get this exact hesitation that you are describing.

Where are the three pilot transition holes? I cleaned everything and blew them all out. I disassembled the carb and rechecked popoff still 32psi

If they are not Mikuni they are junk and need to go.
Follow the carb rebuild thread in the sticky list.

rechecked my source according to them they are genuine mikuni. I got one installed with a new 65g spring...popoff is 24psi which is spec....just the very low end of it. Replacing the fuel filter oring and fuel selector today. I also bought a digital tach with a .5 sec refresh rate

Oil injection line and without it your ski is getting no oil. IF you are running premix then you have a big air leak. Either way you will ruin your genine fast.

Running premix, want to eventually reinstall oil injection....I have the pumps, the cables....looking for carb linkages. Should that be capped off in the interim? Is that my lean issue? Btw you guys are awesome and have been so very helpful....I really like these skis and want to get them to 100%

Yes, cap that off before you seize your engine. That will make you run really lean and melt pistons.

Went and ran both of them today...no hesitation, they are 10mph faster and not hard starting after sitting. Thanks for all the help! Any idea where I can get the oil pump linkage for the carb....can’t find it anywhere

Does anyone have a picture of the oil pump linkage layout? I have the parts and want to make sure I install them correctly

I have a '97 GTI which I am rebuilding the carb on now and trying to confirm if the oil pump is working correctly right now. I think this pic will help.

My setup is slightly different, there is a plastic elbow and very short cable...do these looke correct for idle and full throttle? at idle the index marks are aligned

That looks correct to me. Once you have it installed, you’re going to open the bleed screw until the supply line is filled and there is no air. Then you close the bleed screw and start the engine. While it’s idling, reach in and turn the pump lever to the WOT position and watch oil fill the two small lines. It should take about 30 seconds to fill them up.
