Solenoid or starter

Im trying to find a thread about this, I know there's a million out there but I couldn't narrow it down. 2001 RXDI, key goes on, 2 beeps, press the start button, solenoid clicks, no crank and I get beep. If I press the start button a second time I just get a beep. If I cross the solenoid posts nothing happens, no crank. Im pretty good mechanically but just not the same with electrical. All connections are good, sanded clean and greased. Starter is about 2 years old from SBT. Battery is at 12.2v key on and off.

That sounds like a weak battery, load test it. See what the battery reads when you press the start button, the first time after putting Dess on

Was also thinking that. Threw the battery on the trickle, after work I'll give it another round. I know the starter is good, took it out last week and tested it, spins perfect. Thanks

Normally the aftermarket starters aren't that great, they usually don't last more than a season or two, but your battery is low at 12.2 and that is likely the issue. Watch for the voltage drop when it clicks at the solenoid while starting...much below 11 volts it'll just click and not turn over.

Sounds to me like the starter or wiring to the starter. Perhaps the ground
You should get something when you jump the solenoid.
Great idea to have a hot battery.
Also....Remove the spark plugs and see what's going on. It will make it easier to turn over for certain.
NOTE: If you tighten the positive connection on the starter and the lug moves/turns it is possible that it can contact the side of the starter internally and short out.
Another check would be to put voltage directly on the starter positive with jumper cables.
Good Luck !!

Took the battery off the trickle, meter had it at 12.9. Still got the same result. Although to add to what etemplet said; the post on the starter does actually move a tiny bit. Gonna work in this a little more before there is a new battery or starter purchase.

Double checked everything, re-cleaned all the connections on the starter and it started right up. I did notice the post on the starter does wiggle just a little bit. Just like everything else, always a good choice to go with OEM. Thanks guys!!

I'd pull the positive cable off the starter, grab the top of the post with a pair of channel locks, or something that won't slip and try to snug it better. I have a lot of trouble with these, I think it is because I like the positive cable tight. LOL Good Luck !!
