"So where does THIS piece go?" Here? no. Where?! Electrical Connections

So I am at a slight disadvantage as I was not the one who disassembled my 1996 XP.

I am starting to put everything together and have some questions.

I looked in the shop manual and it did not help me.

First off, the ground connections. I see three ground wires. One goes to the starter (check!) and one must go to the battery... but where does the third one go? My assumption is that it bolts somewhere on the engine, but where?

Also, on the back of the ski, near the seat release there is a white breather hole, similar to the one that gushes water when the flush hose is connected, and it goes inside the hull, but the hose doesn't go anywhere. Where is it supposed to go? it is a plastic ribbed hose. Is it just a breather?

Let me know about this stuff. Thanks so much in advance.

You can see that ribbed hose, and a bit of the ground cables.

Please ignore EVERYTHING else.. lol its cleaner now, and that random cylinder head isn't in there anymore.

Actually, you can't see the ribbed hose, its pretty invisible considering its in the dark, laying on the bottom of the hull. Although, what you do see is the cable for the starter, which looks just like the ribbed plastic hose that im questioning about.

dosent the 1996's have a ground wire to the GROUND PLATE ON THE E-BOX I CANT REMEMBER I HAVE A 97 AND I KNOW THEY ARE DIFFERENT A LITTLE BUT TRY THAT IF THERE IS A GROUND PLATE. as for the other question it is hard to tell since i cant view your pics for some reason

I think you're on to something. I'll check the rear electrical box later. According to the parts manual there is a grounding plate.

ribbed hose? do you mean the electrical wire with the black ribbed sheath? the 96 xp is a very simple electrical system. Not exactly sure what you are referring to, but the extra small black wire that comes out of the black box next to the battery to connects to the negative terminal on the battery along with the large ground wire. the "ribbed hose" as you call it is just a main wire. you have a main ground that connects from the battery to the engine ground(actually on the ground lug on the on the starter). you have a main red power wire that goes from the pos on your starter to the solenoid and another red main one that goes from the solenoid to the starter.

This is good information, I will take a picture shortly. There is nothing in the ribbed sheath though.

The only "ribbed sheaths" in mine are on the red and black wires coming from the battery. If one of those doesn't have a sheath in yours that is probably where it goes.

yes, you are correct, someone added a bilge pump, that's what that is, not factory for sure.

the large wires are the battery terminals, the small black wire with the yellow connector connects to the negative terminal on the battery along with the main ground.

also, your missing the driveshaft bellows, your ski will sink in about 2 minutes without it.

oh yes I know, at this time the engine isn't even bolted in yet. I have the PTO boot, and the accordion looking boot ready to go on once my alignment tool comes.

Thank you for noticing that :)

You said that the yellow connector one goes to the negative, along with one other black ground. But that still leaves me with one large gauge negative, right?

one should be the positive that connects to the battery, it should go into the black box and connect to the solenoid(the side with the extra wire attached). the other side main power wire of the solenoid goes to the starter(no extra wire).

My positive wires are good, I figured out they go.

But the black wires are still my problem... i still have one extra large gauge negative cable...

Maybe I'm missing something, but I did connect a ground and a positive to the starter.
