i have read a lot about the problem but no definate answers. has been a problem all year. smokes like crazy when it first starts. like large smoke plume. noticed that if i pull the plugs it spits out a lot of fuel/oil out of one cylinder and not the other. the other cylinder is fine and like i said it runs great when it burns it all off. any ideas where to start?

You would need ALOT of oil in there to hydrolock. First thing to check is if it is fuel or oil or both. Next time it sits, try turning off the fuel selector valve and see if the problem goes away, or is less. If not, then you could pinch off the oil line, but then you'd have to remember to take the clamp off before running it! (normally I would tie my key lanyard to it or run a string from that to the DESS post to remind me.

yes. couldn't all the oil cause hydrolock over time?

Yes

You would need ALOT of oil in there to hydrolock.

It takes less than you would think. The oil seals the rings so well... it makes it VERY hard for the starter to crank it.

BUT... with that said... it doesn't take much to make CRAZY smoke at start up. So... if the smoke is after it's been sitting for a while (a few days to a week) then I would say your center seals or RV seal has gone bad.

it will smoke after sitting for a day. it is worth trying to replace the RV seals first? how does one do that? I know the main seals require a complete tear down so I thought I would try the rv first
