ski rope suck up

Hey after my son sucked up a thin wake board rope into the ski a couple of weeks ago. We couldnt fix it in the water or on the land ..... so when we got home he said he cut all of it out on the trailer. He is 17 and way smarter than anyone else. He went back out in the ski and it was running very rough. When he brought it back home i told him not to run it untill i took the pump off. when I did ther was still a wad wrapped around the shaft. What concerns me is a mass of fiberous material spread throughout the aft engine compartment. like it sucked stuff through the shaft into the engine area. As i cleaned it it was more than a quart bowl of material in the bilge. Why would it come through the shaft, and has anyone experienced this also. ?

Cant say I've ever heard of a rope getting sucked into the engine compartment... but if it did, I would be worried about the condition of your carbon seal. Also... I would completely remove the driveshaft to verify nothing is melted up inside the seal.
