ok, thinking theoretically... would twin 85hp= 170hp be better then a single 170hp jet drive motor?? i was thinking the twins would make a boat go faster, seeing how 2 impellers are better then 1.. giving it a little more thrust. also if that is the case could anyone guesstimate what the twins would equal up to a single(hp/speed)?

Its a give and take.

2 engines/pumps will give better acceleration, since your will have more pump area. Also, since you have 2 pumps in the water, you will have a better chance to "Hook up" in rough water. Also... yes... a twin should hold better top speed.

BUT... since you are moving more water... you have more drag on the engines, (total) So you will burn more fuel. But since the twin 85hp engine boats are 2-stroke... they are a little more thirsty than the 4-strokes anyway.

I'm not even going to guess on the speed=speed question since there are too many variables.
