How dangerous is it to get silicone in the crank case when rebuilding a 951 DI? In the manual it states don’t put too much as it may go in the case but I’ve also heard of people putting some in the crank case where the crank bearing and counter balance bearings/ oil seals are to hold them in place.

Never use RTV silicone on any cases!

You want to use ThreeBond 1211, 1184 or MotoSeal, HondaBond or YamaBond. Put a very thin coat on both halves of the cases, not on the bearings or seals.

What is the problem with RTV? And is there a serious harm in putting the stuff on the seals and bearings?

RTV is not fuel proof and will leak air destroying the engine.
There is no need for it on the seals and could cause to seals not to seal or pop out. There is nothing to seal on the bearings so again, not needed.

You have been warned, do not use RTV.
