Hi everyone, hopefully some of you may have an idea of what may be the
issue I'm having with my 2002 185 Utopia.
Over the last 3 years, we've experienced being shut-down on our spring
maiden voyage. Winterizing was done by dealer for 2 of those years, the 3rd,
by myself with help from a performance engine friend of mine. All 3 times
same thing happens, we do all the summerizing stuff, new fuel, plugs, filters, etc.,launching no problem, boat runs well for approx, 45min to an hour
no problems, however when slowing to an idle, throttle is at about 1/4 throttle engine quits, and is unable to start. Find a 20 amp fuse blown, replaced it, try to start, fuse pops again. This happens numberous times, lucky I bought many extra fuses. Eventually we give up after jumping the fuel
pump directly to battery, which seems to run fine, but that blasted fuse keeps popping. We end up being towed in, every year, after the first outing.
I take the boat home, threaten to sell or sink it, etc, then try it again on the
trailer, new fuse, water running, the boat starts like a charm, and it will run
good for the rest of the season, when we get it back in the water. I replaced
the fuel pump, fuel filters, etc. and this ghostly problem still persists.
Help anyone?
Regard,
Pokey

problem with 1996 xp

hey everyone
i have a problem with my jet drive, the steering part of it fell off.
can you buy just the steering for it or do you have to buy the whole jet?

Sounds like Ya getting moiture in the electrical, thats why it runns good on trailor.

1/4 throttle shut down

Yes, I agree, however, I can now take it back to the lake and it
will run fine for the rest of the summer.
I've heard a few scenarios, ie: stabilizer not fully run out of system,
too much ethanol in fuel I'm using, plugged filters, try using a higher
octane fuel, put in fuel enhancers. All that kind of stuff.
We've tried to find this ghost of a problem, and it's probably something
very simple as you say moisture getting in somewhere, but where, and how.
We'll keep looking and report back.
Thanks
Pokey
