Shifter....?weld?

Hey guys the metal rod that ties the shifter cable to the shifter ass'y on my 98 sportster 1800 broke. Having a tough time finding the rod or entire shifter cable for that year/model. Think I am gonna try and weld that rod back together. Anyone think this may be a bad idea. I gotta think that the weld will be strong enough to hold, especially if I loosen the tension spring on the shifter. Worst case scenario is that it breaks when I am loading to the trailer or approaching the dock (like it did when it broke). Any thoughts?:hat:

Soooooooo, nuthin...no opinions on this one....noone knows where to find a shifter cable. Does anyone know if the cables are the same on any other make or model

Oh wow, that SUCKS!!! Thanks for the info though Timmy. Do u think that the weld will hold on the metal rod.... well i guess there's only one way to find out!

I may end up taking you up on that one. When we got the boat the right cable had popped, right there where it joins that little copper arm that ties into the control arm. I used an aircraft cable crimp and spliced it back together and it has worked like a charm, but it is only a temporary fix.....how much you want for each cable?
