Welp, smoked the ' 92 [emoji22] .... had a good run with this one but I believe she's done.... had them out on Lake Michigan two days ago and while heading back to the harbor, just passed the decommissioned nuclear power plant in Zion( coincidence or fate) just pretty much idling past with my daughter on her '92 , and it simply went BZZZZZIT....DONE!... never to start again...it sounded exactly like when the '91 smoked when that small brass gear( sorry guys don't know the name of it) had tore up.... any suggestions how I might diagnose what happened? It IS the original motor. Is it possible that it was just done? I always run good gas in these and the proper oil... this is the one I had the trouble with the rev limiter. I thought i had rectified that situation though when I found the right mpem for that one. Nevertheless , I am determine now too get it back running of course . Can i bench test the oil pump to see if it's possible it wasn't getting oil? The few times we did have it out this season, it was using oil so I guess ,I'm not sure what happened....thanks for any helpful suggestions or some humorous ones....

It's 99.9% of the time a dirty carb or fuel system on these that fry's and engine but even then they will only last so long. The oil pumps just don't fail.

First step is to check compression and go from there as it could honestly be hundreds of different things if we are just going to guess.

I totally understand that... I'm wondering if I should even take the time troubleshooting when I know ultimately what needs to be done ....

But if we are talking fuel issues ...wouldn't it have been running like crap before it smoked? it wasn't...
she was running like normal (of course in til it fried)

Nope. Typically customers will say it was running better than it ever has then just stopped. Remember a lean engine will make the most horsepower right up until it seizes.

I am familiar with this phenomenon being a snowmobiler running older equipment than these skis ,they always run like hell before they blow but I'm usually holding it to the wood when that happens..... I was basically at an idle when it happened.... by no means am I arguing with your intelligence in this field I'm just trying to understand what happened.... I do have to admit , I have not cleaned those carburetor since the very first time that I ask for help on this Forum, back in 2011. So if that's the case ,and if that's what happened ,that's all me why this thing burned up...poor maintenance. ..

Does the engine turns with the starter? If so, then a compression test would answer the question if it is fried or not.

Break the system in half.

Pull the pump off, 5 minutes, and isolate if it is the pump or the motor. It sounds like the motor though......
