hate to do this but I cant believe it takes from February till now to rebuild a 951 and I still don't have it got lots of excuses but still no engine save your self the trouble and send it some where else summers going to be over before I get my engine back and I live in Alabama sorry ses

4 months? no reason to have it that long...good to know about SES, I almost sent a crankshaft to them earlier in the year based on raving reviews on their website. The person I spoke to was very responsive, but I ending up using Full Bore for the cylinders re sleeved (2 weeks) and SBT for the core swap on the crank and balance shaft (4 days).

I sent mine to one of the other "well respected" re-builders and waited from beginning of November to end of April, and it wasn't until I whined about it on this forum that things got going. I'd probably still be waiting

This is nothing new. It's always the same story with SES from almost every member here yet, you guys keep using them.

Who do you recommend. I’m restoring a 96 Gtx with 787.

There is a member down close to you that has a shop. He did some work for me last year. Great guy. I am traveling today so PM me and I will get the info to you tomorrow.

I can't recommend anybody because they all seem to get these long delay past promised dates and excuses. I rebuild them myself and have Group K do the machine work. Honestly with the manual and patience anybody can do it.

I restored the 97' GTX using Full Bore, SBT, and parts sources like ebay/amazon. Earlier this year, I sent the jugs/cylinders to Full Bore for a re sleeve, got them back less than 2 weeks later. At separate times, I sent the balance shaft and the crankshaft to SBT, got a quick turnaround less than a week each time.

Both rebuild vendors offer complete engine core swaps if you want to go that route, but I pieced everything together and did it myself.

SES, Fullbore, who ever. They're all the same, tell you one thing and give you another . Do it yourself and have the satisfaction of doing it and knowing what's in there. And learn a TON about what makes your ski tick in the process. Fullbore had my customers 951 from the beginning of April until almost October I think of last year. Missed the entire season, I installed the engine over the winter and gave it back to him in the spring. He wanted a warranty and I can't offer one. I told him I've never built a grenade and don't plan to. SBT is the only one with them ready to go.

Well, a SBT 787 crank is $275 with $100 shipping to California for me since you have to use their shipping both ways even though I can ship the core back much cheaper so $375.

A OEM Seadoo 787 crank with free shipping from Pro Caliber is $351.19 with free shipping. Guess which one uses quality bearings and parts not made in China and is much better quality? Your clue is the one I would spend my $351.19 cold hard cash on.

You have to watch the shipping from SBT because most of their questionable quality parts end up being more expensive that OEM. Bey hey, they have a "warranty".

Unfortunately these guys are right. Full Bore took 6 months to get mine back to me. The problem is guys like Full Bore and SES are very small operations usually with maybe 1 other employee. They get swamped and it takes a while. If they told you before you send them the engine it is going to take 6 friggin months to get it back they would be out of business. Dan at full bore does good work but it takes a while. And he also lost an employee earlier in the year which really put him behind. I did get the engine back and it seems to be strong

Oh, and if I ever need another one rebuilt, I will definitely at least attempt to do it myself. I just wanted a warranty is why I went with FB

Prior to sending, I was told less than 2 wks turnaround on the cylinder re sleeve at Full Bore, they came through, but I stayed on them every few days about it. SBT is super quick and it's easy, they ship immediately, you drop the core part in the box they shipped in and drop it off at FED EX. Total for both cylinders done at Full Bore $300 + $30 ship = $330. The total for crankshaft swap at SBT $275 + $40 ship= $315.

Since SBT is in south florida, I'm sure places like the west coast is more on shipping. As far as the quality on bearings and so forth, nobody advertises where their bearings come from, except SES, but they apparently can't get the work done. Aside from a lower price, my rational going with SBT vs. others is they do thousands of engines and cranks a year, I'm sure their bearings sourcing is fine, otherwise they wouldn't be offering 2 year warranties on reman engines.

Yeah, I had to stay on them just about every other day too to finally get the damn thing back.

And to your point, SBT is a mass-production operation whereas these other guys aren't. I took advantage of that winter special FB runs (it's like $100 off regular price) and I was told when I called it would probably mid to late February before I got is back. Called mid Feb and then it was end of Mar. Posted something on here about filing a complaint with PayPal and another guy saw it and called Dan about it. But even after that I still waited another month. Bottom line is, if you're not in a hurry (but who isn't these days) FB does great work. If you need it in a hurry then SBT or doing it yourself is the better way to go.

All I can say is SBT cranks are not the same quality as OEM.

Who sells the most hamburgers in the world? McDonalds but that doesn’t mean that they are the best.

Let me clarify my previous statement; SBT might be the better way to go, doing it yourself with an OEM crank from Pro Caliber would be the BEST way to go :p

A friend called pro caliber a month ago for a 800 crank. They said they get their cranks from sbt. Is this true or do you have to give the secret handshake to get an oem one?

No, this is not true. If you order the seadoo crank part numbers you get a seadoo factory crank. The shipping box comes directly from seadoo and has your cranks serial number and everything.

First time I have heard of Pro Caliber - impressive. But the advertise (as stated above) OEM parts. Why can't I order something like a crank for my 96 or 97XP direct from Bombardier/BRP? Is is because they are no longer made? And if that is true, how does Pro Caliber send these 23 year old parts in new Sea Doo Factory boxes? I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW - what parts does BRP still make so you can buy new and what parts (like probably a complete engine) are long since gone. I mean, how many more years can we all expect to keep buying ancient, re-conditioned parts before there just are not enough parts to go around anymore and our 95 - 99 Sea Doos have to go to the junk yard?

No one can order direct from BRP. Pro Caliber is a seadoo dealer, just like your local dealer would be. Go to the parts counter and have them look it up, it's right at their finger tips. They keep rebuilding them, we keep buying them. I'm sure you could probably still buy a new engine. Not sure why guys worry so much about when the well will dry up. Keep buying OEM and the demand will show. They're in business to make money and I'm in the business to spend it. There are some many companies that make parts for these skis its unreal.

Thanks - makes sense. I did not realize Pro Caliber has a BRP Factory franchise license. I really don't ever want to put anything in my 96/97's that is not OEM unless there is no other choice. And I really don't see me ever not having a 1995(6)XP. Sure, I will end up with a new RXP-X300. I want the speed and I want a 3 year Factory warranty. I just dont see these couch-monsters ever being as much fun as the classic X4 hull.
