SES Rebuild Status

So it was pushed back at least one more day. Well I guess I will be looking forward to seeing you post a more positive post tomorrow. I would not be that discouraged yet.

The last time I talked to him about the guaranteed shipping was I while ago, but at that time he said that guarantee was going to start in March or April. so my motor did not qualify for that guarantee.

From what I understand most of his business comes from dealers and other shops that are not capable of rebuilds, which explains to some extent why the "one time" buying sometimes has had a hard time getting motors back on time. So my guess is that the guarantee shipping is suppose to regain confidence in that market.

I know you said it was only on premium rebuilds page. I hope that does not mean the regular rebuilds will get pushed back to make sure those premium builds get done first.

Received the tracking number and the shipping label. Engine is on its way on the brokers truck, to the UPS warehouse. At that time once received by UPS the tracking will start. Tom told me I should have it Thursday.

No new news as of yet. Yesterday, when Tom sent me the shipping label and tracking he said it would be on the truck tomorrow (today) but I am not sure if meant the brokers truck or the UPS truck, I assumed the UPS truck cause I had the label and tracking but that can all be done days or weeks ahead of time. When I track it on the UPS website my message is;

"Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated."

So I can only assume he meant the brokers truck, either way he told me I should see it Thursday and according to UPS it is a 2 day delivery from SES to me. So if it leaves UPS by tomorrow AM it should be delivered by Thursday night, More then likely Friday morning.

Oh happy day, just received confirmation that UPS has my motor as of 8.09 pm today and will arrive to me by end of day Thursday. I am out of the woods and jacked. Excuse me while I do my happy dance.

Nice. Mine is still lost on a truck somewhere in California. It will take a week for the return to sender back to SES and then another week to ship to me. Which will make the entire turnaround 7 months.

That is such a shame that it would drag out so long. I had sent mine to SES and shortly after all the delivery issues surfaced, so I made it a point to be in constant contact with Tom to be sure everything was going to proceed as promised. I was able to keep the delivery within 2 days of original agreement with Tom. For me, Tom was accessable and gave me answers when needed.

Be sure to track it and call him the minute it hits his door and get a new tracking number from him.

Thanks, I am actually a little disappointed in the paint application, there are lots of runs and areas that barely got over sprayed, you can still see the metal. Maybe I am expecting to much, but really how hard is it to do it properly, especially when you do it every day.
The water and oil nipples where not covered before painting. The oil injection nipples are actually sealed shut with paint. He didn't clean or paint the mag housing either. The identification plate was not masked up either, just painted over top.
I would consider it a GM job - great car.......just needs a little help on the fit and finish.

I might use some laquer thinner and clean the serial tags.
Good turn around time though. The customer service seemed to be good as well

I might take that rv cover off too and scrape the paint out of the oil nipples and then blow compresed air through it just to make sure it is clear. I would hate to blow that freshly built motor because the oil lines were clogged

Ya, I will give that a try.
Overall the general experience with SES was good, he was 2 days late in shipping which is not the end of the world. For me, Tom was very accessible when I contacted him which I found reassuring. He likes to chat and doesn't mind sharing information and was always polite.
Other then being 2 days late the only other negative would be fit and finish.
Do you think that I can wipe it now with acetone and give it another coat of paint?

I have no experience with aligning or not aligning, but every expert here will tell you to align properly with the tool, there is too much a steak not to do it. You will either take out your pump possibly part of your hull and prematurely wear bearings. SBT will rent you one for $75 if you don't want to buy one.

Okay, I cant be the only one who has a huge problem with the paint on the oil injection nipples? I mean for christ's sake, how long does it take to wrap a piece of tape around it? 5 seconds per line? Work with me here but an average novice could possibly just reattach the oil lines and not take that paint out of the nipple like kicker will have to, and then the brand new engine is going to roast because the rebuilder either couldnt take 30 seconds MAX to cover it like any normal person would do, i hope he put more care into the rest of the engine than he did the paintjob, because that is just pitifull to me.... you pay all of this money to get your ski back and the motor should be ready to drop in, you shouldnt have to do more work to it.

You saw what racer had to do when his motor got some fisheyes and runs. You may be able to sand runs and then hit it with some paint, but what paint is used on that. It might be hard to find the same color that they used.
