Just added a 1994 XP to our garage.

It's been pieced together from at least two SeaDoo 657X's. The previous owned rebuilt the top end and carbs, but could never get it going... backfiring through the carbs, thought it was out of time.

Currently have the motor pulled and inspecting the Rotary Valve. Appears to have the 159 degree valve, same as the 717. Is this the correct rotary valve or the 147 degree?

Thanks for the reply. Appears to have the correct 159 valve and timing is correct.

I'll be doing a leak down test next.

Both sides of the crankcase filled with oil. Looks like will be buying a crankshaft/seals.

Anyone have a good used crankshaft for a 657x?

There's really no good reason to install a used crank as there is a very, very high chance of a used crank having leaking inner crank seals.

Unfortunately the easiest and least expensive option is a reman SBT crank.

They are the inner crank seals so you can't change them without a big press and the correct equipment to true the crank and when you are that far you might as well rebuild the crank anyways.
