When I had the ski on my trailer before leaving the house it wouldn't start so I started it with another battery and everything is fine. I thought maybe battery needs to be replaced but I took it took the lake that to see ifthe seadoo would charge it. When I was preping the ski at the launch ramp I pushed the start button and no start. So I backed the ski in the water went to unhook it and I pushed the button again and it started fine without a problem. Turned it off parked the trailer came back and it started fine. I ran it for like an hr docked it and went to get the trailer. Started the ski again and loaded it on the trailer. When I pulled it out and tried to start it to clear the water no start. Before I replace the battery does anybody have any suggestions maybe it is something else or is it just the battery. I've heard of skis being hardto start in water not out of water
Its a 2006 sea doo gti

If it starts in all cases in the water, it is likely not the battery. Soooo,,, the questions is, what is the difference from being on the trailer as compared to being in the water. In reality, it is harder to start in the water as the impeller has drag from the water.

It leads me to think there is a connection issue that corrects itself when the ski is at a different angle. Such as,,, at the dock it is more level and the wire, relay, ignition module, starter, started connection are at a different angle than when on the trailer.

Try adjusting the trailer at different angles and see if it starts. I would also suggest to loosen the tie down straps so it most closely resembles being in the water, (no twisting or down pressure on the hull for example)...

Just check you wire connections. Pay attention to the battery connections and the ground connection going to the engine. They all should be clean and tight. The angle has nothing to do with it not turning over...unless its upside down and in the water...

I mentioned the angle for two reasons. Make it like it sits in the water and see if it starts. If so,,, it will help solve the issue. Further, angle DOES make a difference on how wires hang. Which may be enough to change the quality, or lack thereof, of the connection.

My point is, if it starts one way and not another, get the ski as close as you can to when it does start and then you obtain information no matter the end result..

Thanks guys I checked all wires and grounds all tight I even tried tilting the ski from one extreme to the other no go. This last time out was just a test run before the long weekend. I'm going to laughlin and really ride and I will see if anything changes I will post an update when I get back thanks again

Alright guys I'm back from laughlin and the ski was a dud I bought a new battery and ran just fine. When I left pulled the battery off charger and started fine out of water but by the next morning the battery was dead no start in water or out. Now I'm not sure but my charger aslo took a shit so I don't know if the battery screwed up the chrger or the faulty charger killed my battery. The charger got real hot and burnt up from inside so maybe it overcharged my battery but it definitely needed a new battery cause theone in it was a stock one so it lasted a long time. I told the guys at the shop how it started in the water but not on trailer they said must have been just battery staring when it wanted to coinsidence oh well thanks for the help. Great site!!!
