Seadoo RXP - low compression

I have a 2006 Seadoo RXP with only about 20 hours on it, I took it out for the first time about a week ago and noticed it had a hard time starting, after awhile of trying it would finally start, but continued to have the same problem after turning it off. I took it to the local dealer and they checked it over and said it had low compression (about 60 pounds.) They said to fix it, they'd have to put in a complete new motor, does this seem right? or is it possible to be able to just be able to rework the cylinders and put in new rings? Also, does anyone know what would cause it to do this?

Thats an answer id except from the dealer! Thats completely untrue! If you cant do the work yourself, find yourself a new dealer!

i think he meant to so expect versus except. if the engine has low compression it can be rebuilt(if there is no hole or connecting rid outside the block) or the cylinders replaced versus buy a new engine, thats mega bucks.

Yes... depending on the damage... you can install new rings.

BUT... a dealer probably wont do it because the labor involved in re-ringing a 4-tech engine would cost more than just replacing an engine. Also... this is a VERY busy time of the year for a SeaDoo dealer. Everyone is pulling out there ski's, and need them worked on. I'm hearing wait times of 3 weeks at the moment.

BUT... since the engine only has 20 hours on it... I would look at other things. The dead gasket can be blown, or the valve clearance could be WAY off.

Either way... the engine needs to come apart.
