Seadoo newb need advice....

I know forum's usually have a "Newbs need to read this" sticky, can someone post a link up to it?

I just bought a 2001 seadoo challenger 1800 240hp yesterday. Truth be told, I no NOTHING about boats. What kind of oil is the best to use? Is there a place for the two stroke oil, and a place for crank oil? What maintnence needs done before I take it to the lake? It has a new fuel pump, battery, and spark plugs now.

I run the Quick Silver premium oil that the manual recommends in my mercury. When you open the engine cover you should see a oil reservoir tank to put the oil in. It holds about three gallons, and you will go through about one-two gallons a season depending on how many hours you put on, and what kind of RPM you run at. Also this is a two stroke, there is no crank case oil, the engine gets all its oil from the fuel.

Before you put the boat in the water for the first time check the oil in the stator housing and the gear case. If there is any signs of moisture or contamination you need to do some maintenance.

If this is your first boat, or jet boat at least, be sure to stay away from shallow water. In anything less than about three feet of water you risk the possibility of sucking up rocks or other debris and damaging the jet pump. Keep in mind in reverse with the Sea-Doos, things are backwards. The bow follows the steering wheel, not the stern.

Definatly go out on a quiet day and practice slow speed manuvers. Otherwise you WILL get it all backwards and hit or bump into something. I speak from experience. Just as the manual says.

Yeah I totally agree...These boats suck at low speed manuevering. I bumped into someone my first time out. Luckily it was a tap and he was a nice guy.
