As much as it pains me, I gotta build at least 3 more Dollies for moving the skis around. I am almost tempted to buy them already built but it's just too cheap to build my own. In my laziness I am perfecting the minimalist approach to dollies. Harbor Freight here I come.

having messed with the wood ones and having a wheel collapse on one of my wooden stands I switched to the metal stands. With the time and money I had futzing with the wood ones I more than spent what it took to buy the metal ones. Buy once, cry once. With as cheap as you can snag them now-a-days on ebay it's not worth the hassle building your own.

Are you kiddin I just bought me a new kick azz $200 saw so I could build them. :) I needed it anyway. I gave the old saw to my son years ago. I'm gonna need at least 4 more and my back will thank me for the saw and the stands. I saw some really cool ones made out of PVC. I like those.

DO NOT waste your time with pvc. Been there done that. Not sturdy and scratch the bottom of your ski. Do as you please but if you want quality without soaking a butt ton into wood stands then metal is where it's at. Metal stands are also lighter. I had over $50 in good casters and they still broke under the weight of my xp. The stand I had my big yammi on the wheels were also starting to come apart. I just bought 2 metal stands for $260 shipped on ebay. Get a 15% off coupon and save a bunch more. Also I assembled them in 20 mins as opposed to the full day it takes to build wood stands. Personally I say get crafty somewhere else. Put your money in quality stands. Now for those folks flipping skis and need a ton of cheap temp stands I get it.

These are the ones I built from a guy on Greenhulk and they are killer. Harbor freight castors never had a problem and I have a rough driveway out of my shop. I even had a GTXL on one for months. Just google the twinturbostangs bomb proof stands.

These don't take all day to build. Metal ones are nice, but for what Suke paid that is another ski for me, I gotta invest wisely. I also modded on to be slammed on the ground. The height TTS gives works perfect for my trailer height, adjust accordingly.

Before you even comment Suke........NO, some day I will finish it.

Yup that's the one I built. Took me all day to get 2 built. I just don't have that kind of time now a days. Totally get it for someone who buys and moves a lot of skis. I have 2 and that number will never grow. After having the caster buckle under my xp I thought man this is dumb considering how much time and money I now have invested in my xp.

The issue I had with a lot of pre-made stands on the market and designs I've seen people do is I can't slide a 2 ton engine crane under it. This is must to install/remove engines and lift the ski with the slings when swapping 2 skis between 1 dolly and 1 trailer. I made mine with the clearance to be able to do this, otherwise I'd buy a pre-made metal stand.

When I swapped the 2 skis I own around recently, I upgraded the wheels to hold more weight, roll easier, and most importantly the wheels freaking LOCK!!! I've almost had a runaway ski down the driveway a couple times!!!

You'd likely need the shop stands then and those are pricey. I've either pulled the motors out by hand or a makeshift hoist. I have an electric winch on the wall that moves my skis from stand to trailer.

There's 2 things I'll never do again: rebuild 20 yr old carbs, and build wooden stands. I'll buy new carbs and buy metal stands. That's purely from my experience. To be fair I'm a hyper risk averse person. So keep that in mind. :)

If you hate rebuilding carbs and building wooden stands, you'd really hate re doing 20 yr old gelcoat. I said I'd never ever do it again, but here I am today, a year later debating the same thing on the 96' GSX RESTO,

I've done it. I restored my xp 5 years ago. I also do paint correction/ restoration and ceramic coating installation on the side so that stuff is second nature to me. It's all about where I choose to spend my time.

Here is mine very basic. The first is made from one 2x8 board and one 4x4 board with castors. I have these on my dock without the castors to hold the skis. Second one is also very basic built with scrap 2x4 and castors. Both of these I can roll my shop/engine crane under.

You guys got some great ideas for sure !! I just use (2) Harbor Freight Dollies. 8 bucks each. That gives me 8 castors for each dolly. I just screw a few boards to a set and it works great. I also like mine on the" Down Low" ... LOW as in ski height. This will be my third iteration.
