Seadoo Alignment Tool Issue - 2012 Challenger 230

Broke a timing chain so need to pull engine. I bought the alignment tool for when I put the engine back in. Here is the problem, the drive shaft guard is interfering with the shaft of the alignment tool. It doesn't say anywhere in the manual to remove that shaft guard. Trying to get the motor back in this weekend, any suggestions?

I have heard this issue before. Options were grind the tool to fit inside the guard, or remove/replace the guard. It is two screws, with nuts on the inside of the bilge.
