I bought this 97 GTS jet ski as a project, as far as I know it had no problems starting I charge the battery and the jet ski started up fine after replacing the exhaust manifold it would not start. For awhile I would not get two beeps when key was inserted but after cleaning post and key i did end up getting two beeps again. I get 2 beeps when key is inserted but will not turn over when I press the start button. After watching videos online in talking to my local sea-doo dealer I bought and replaced the solenoid with no avail. I did take the electrical box apart and tested the ohm ratings with the lanyard on and off the post, off the post was an open circuit and with it on the post ohms were 0. I also tested the starter by crossing the solenoid and the engine did turn over but would not start. I also looked at both fuses in the electrical box and both tested fine, a lot of the videos showed three fuses but only saw two in mine I don't know if there is another fuse for the MPEM but didn’t see any others and at his point I am getting two beeps. What is so frustrating is it would start up and run perfectly before I replaced the exhaust manifold. Years ago I used to work on 2 stroke dirt bikes but this is a whole new breed for me didn't know if anyone had any suggestions or answers thanks Linwood

I would find the connected for the start button and check continuity of the switch. Static state it should be open, press the start button and it should have no resistance like 0.01

When you say kill switch do you mean the stop and start button or the safety lanyard? Going to look at the start button tomorrow we just got snow here and strong wind gusts 40 mph+ if you dont like the weather in maine wait a minute.. :)

It was my friends 94 xp. His has the kill switch on the handlebars. It has a safety lanyard switch and a green push button start switch on the dash also. I unplugged the red button kill switch and jumped the connection on the harness end and had start.

DESS equipped skis don’t work that way.

If I trace the start button wires and jump them should the jet-ski start or is there something else that comes into play?

I would just pull the switch assembly apart, verify EXACTLY which wires you're working with and check the switch with a meter. God for bid you accidentally grab the wrong plug and jump voltage back to the MPEM. Your cheap project just got expensive. The more you dig into this ski the more you'll learn about how it works.

Just tested the the switch form the connector under the hood and there was no change on the meter when the button was pushed so jumped the two wires and ski will turn over but not start then after turning over a few times i get one beep.

When the problem first started I tried to start it from a car battery now I know that was dumb but thought it was a battery issue and that was the only one I had around. Hope I didn't fry anything. Should I just put a new start button in it and go from there?

As long as the car isn’t running jumping from a car battery is no problem.

One beep means it isn’t recognizing the lanyard.

I paid $650 for the jet-ski and trailer probably to much but thought I would have to replace exhaust manifold and that was it. I also bought it as a project and I'm starting to learn more about them and that is fun. Just hope I didn't mess anything to expensive up. :)

Any idea on were to order parts from? Found one on eBay for $23. Some come with a red plastic cap but mine didn't have one when taken apart. Anyone have any ideas if mine should have one?
