Sea Doo will not start

I have read a number of these forums but I am not sure it has identified my issue(I may have a few). I had someone with a lot of experience with sea-doos try to get my 1996 GTX Bombardier started (Rotex 717). We bought it knowing it was not running at the time and probably has not started in 4-5 years. He rebuilt the carbs and replaced most of the hoses but it seems that gas is not feeding to the carb. Could bad gas be the cause? I think we added gas to start to try to dilute anything bad. We would dump the fuel filter up front and it would not refill.

Is there a decent manual that identifies just the fuel system and lines? The ones I have reviewed did not have great images associated with them.

We spray an engine starter fluid and it would catch then die. (Tried wd40 without the same result). Spark plugs look good. The one thing I did notice was the pump located at top of the oil tank is a 'T". One of the t connections is a gas/oil lines to under the propultion system. The other is open. I would think a vacuum would need to be created but I am not sure.

I am not all that solid with this type of stuff but I am willing to learn as I did rebuilt the carb on the 2000 Sea Doo that we owned which resolved the issue.

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo Forum.

First of all, to get the most help you really need to change this thread to the 2-stroke forum.

You can check out this thread on fuel delivery problems it has a wealth of information including diagrams that you are looking for.

A few of the most common problems are, bad fuel, you really should have drained the gas and then added fresh. Check the fuel control valve, I personally have not had a lot of success cleaning these, I would just buy a new one (about $20.00). To see if this is the problem just bypass the valve, run the res. or main hose directly from the fuel baffle to the water separator/fuel filter. Also check the "O" ring on the water separator/fuel filter.

Probably the most common problem are the carb. filters, this requires removing the carbs. but since you have had the carbs. overhauled these have probably been cleaned or replaced.

Added: BTW the 96GTX is a 787 Rotax. Sitting that long you need to check the RAVE valves. Since you joined as a Premium member you can download the factory service manual for free.

I have a '96 GSX, one day last year I hooked it up and cranked and cranked but wouldn't start, pretty sure I wasn't getting gas into the filter/water seperator either. I finally realized my '96 has 2 ground wires to the battery and I missed connecting one. Not sure if your GTX has 2 ground wires or not but something to check.

Hi jcrond01 - Welcome to the forum.
I have the same ski as you in green color.
Bought used in late 06. in the 5 yrs I've had it I have changed the pump oil twice, just replaced the fuel line from gray to black (do yours if needed ASAP), added an in-line fuel filter, changed the oil filter twice, cleaned the Rave valves this past Fall, general maintenance as well, oh yes sunk it once too...... :)

Good ski, but on the heavier side, will do over 50mph with no mods, very stable, but can still do 360's.
