Sea-doo RX won't go above 6500 RPM

My Rx was running great yesterday. Then after i dropped a friend off at the dock, i took it out by myself and at about 3/4 throttle it runs like it should. But anything past that it just boggs. Now here's the kicker. While i was jumping some waves, the impeller was making a serious grinding noise. It's been doing that all summer. But all of the sudden yesterday it just got super loud.

I guess my question is "Could the impeller bearings be locking up and causing the sea-doo to run like this?"
It has new reeds, the carbs are fine.
I know it needs an impeller, wear ring, and bearings. But i was just wondering if i am just experiencing another problem with my Bust Out Another Thousand
Oh, and its the carb model 951 with about 140 hours

Well I'd say it's safe to so you trashed your pump for not fixing it when it first started making a noise. Instead of a $50 rebuild kit youll more than likely have to put a impeller shaft in it also. You are now looking at $130ish. That would be best case. I would not ride it anymore until you get it fixed. Yes I'd say that is where your missing rPm is going.

I'm replacing the impeller with a solas 15/20 then a new wear ring and bearing kits and possibly a housing. It's not gonna be cheap anyways.

Your housing might be ok. I'd say your impeller shaft and bearings are trashed. Impros can reman your stock impeller for around $100 unless your wanting a Solas. If you do the work yourself it want be to bad on the wallet.

Yeah, i've rebuilt a few of them. From what i can tell with a flashlight the housing possibly needs to be replaced because its missing a chunk of material. It looks as if it got some rocks thrown it there. Lol. Aw well. I needed something to do this winter!

Update: New brass pump and solas impeller. What an improvement. It ripped the handlebars out of my hands and pulled the key out. But it also has another problem. Its still wont go above 6300 rpm. Its bogging down after 3/4 throttle. Before that it splendid. It also has the "pull choke to overcome bogging" I also just replaced the reeds. What could it be?

If it picks up rpm when you pull the choke it is lean. Get those carbs off Asap and don't ride it anymore until you do.

Yeah, it only does that at about 1/4 throttle. But after 3/4 throttle it just boggs like it did when one of the reeds broke. I went through the carbs earlier this year before the season started. but is there an adjustment screw? It is running lean at 1/4 throttle.

I got lucky too. I traded a guy an old gtx millennium with a trashed motor, pump, hull and missing a whole lot of parts for a brass pump with a new wear ring and a solas impeller. Worked out to my benefit

That works!

So once it bogs at 3/4 pulling the choke does not make it pick up rpm? Does pulling the choke have any effect on the rpm? A buddy of mine was having a issue with his 99 XP only making around 6400 rpm. He found the crank case pressure line to the rave solenoid had a hole rubbed in it.

If its lean at 1/4 i'm thinking you need to lower your pop off pressure thus richening your bottom end. You can also adjust the low speed screw out some until the point it doesn't idle smooth. Check out this page towards the bottom

Yeah, pulling the choke past 3/4 throttle just almost kills it. But at 1/4 it helps it a lot.
I'm thinking some kind of adjustment will help. It doesn't have the tempo's thank god. Whenever this new problem at 3/4 happened the problem at 1/4 got a little worse. So i quit riding it.

your low speed adjusters are lean if the ski gets better when you choke it at low throttle , i would adjust them to richen the mix a bit. and yeah , look at your raves, if they are too dirty , they wont open fully , and you wont get that high end power.

I just cleaned the raves this july. And they weren't even all that bad. it's got 150 hours on it now.

Pull them and check them any ways, I would did you fully disasemble them and clean them the right way, where they put back together right???

yeah , they could be sticking , also run AMSOIL Interceptor injector oil. ........it has a cleaning additive just for raves

My dad is a mechanic and told me not to run additives in anything. Lol. Yes. I knew what i was doing. I'll let you know possibly tomorrow what is going on with it. now that i finally have time to test it.
