Hello fellow Sea-Dooers.

I was on the Connecticut River yesterday and as I was coming out of Wethersfield Cove when the Hi Temp alarm went off. Damn it loud and obnoxious! Anyway I shut it down and wait a minute to have it come back one more time idling our of the channel. Once I got it to speed it was fine and also did not have any issues through long no wake zones.
After about 35 miles I sucked a small piece of plastic that slowed me to 5 mph for the last few miles.

I ended up pulling out a very small piece of frayed plastic and tested it on a local lake today and it was fine until about a few minutes into it Hi Temp warning comes on again.

I ended up shutting it down again for a few minutes. And then I got it up to speed to 30-50 miles lake without an hour and rode it around the lake for about a half hour without any more issues.

Can anyone help me to what causes this and do you think it's going to come back. Also should I check and fix something in particular to make sure this doesn't happen again?

Thanks in advance

Flush the ski on a hose. If you have sucked something up and it was pushed into the cooling system, the flushing may get it out.

If not, then you have to start to open things up as I think the alarm you are having is genuine based on how it comes and goes. It seems to be acting correctly.

If you have a Can Doo Pro, you will be able to tell if it is the exhaust temp or an actual engine temp. This will help to figure out where you need to look for any issues..

When you say flush on a hose do you mean the flush you so after every use where you run water through the hose?
Also what am I opening up?

When you Flush it on a hose, the water runs backwards. This is to help push OUT anything that you may have sucked up. Plastic, garbage, sand, whatever,,,

Important to note, when flushing it goes like this... Engine on, hose on, hose off, engine off. If you do it any other way you can flood the exhaust and push water into the engine.

Opening up,,, if the flushing does not produce anything, then you need to remove cooling hoses and see if they are clear. Also, there could be something in the exhaust, if so, that can cause an overheat as well..

All of this is assuming that the coolant level is good to go.. Have you checked the level?

I was on a Twin Lakes today in Salisbury CT. We are idled out of the small Marina and went North at about 10 to 15 mph and the high temperature warning light came on. I then shut it down and started it up and accelerated to about 35 miles an hour and we spent the next couple hours on the lake without any hi temp warnings. We rode at hi and low speeds. I flushed again this evening.
What do you think I should do at this point? Where are the exhaust hoses that I should check?
Thanks ~ Pierre
