Hi guys and gals

need a little info on drive shaft movement.Recently pulled the supercharger off my 2004 limited gtx and found the carbon ring had excessive vertical movement so i assume its worn out.But should the shaft into the motor move with it??

Found these forums useful in the past so I became a member a few days ago!

The carbon ring floats, so it will move about. That said, the bellows should keep good vertical pressure against it. The shaft should not move more than a minimal (thousandths) amount. You may be missing a rubber bumper that goes into the end of the shaft. I'd have to look yours up to confirm if you should have one. Also, I have read but not seen that there is a grease fitting on the PTO end. If so, then you could be low on grease and this would allow for movement.

Hi
Thanks for the info.So with the new carbon ring assy and end stop rubber fitted. You are saying that there should be minimal vertical movement in shaft. Before I stripped mine down I removed the supercharger and noticed a fair amount of vertical movement drive shaft and didn`t think that was right.
