SD DI balance shaft fiasco

I take my balance shaft on my 2003 XP DI to a machine shop to replace the gear (didnt need replacing, but hey, I am in there) bearings and seals.
they do the work, I go to install it and it is off by about 10 degrees! I check and they didnt mark the gear, they just put it on!
Is it common machine shop practice, generally speaking, to mark any gear removed from a shaft so as to reinstall it in its previous location?
Any ideas where i can buy another shaft for a reasonable price?

Any good machine shop should have marked it. Absolutely, how else would it be balanced?

SBT sells remaned ones.
