Are they reliable? I am looking to get a new 587 engine from them but will they charge for a scored cylinder it is not bad but will need a new sleeve. Is it worth the money? My dads cousin is a mechanic on these things and he says it would only be like 100 dollars cheaper to redo the sleeves and for the new head. I had a bearing come apart and it threw a needle bearing into the rear cylinder scoring it and it is too bad to bore out. So what do you guys recommend???

Depends on who you ask!

I believe, most of the forum members support SBT. They have been selling engines for over 10 years. You don't build a business on a bad reputation.

Your engine being scored will not cost you extra. That should be considered a good core.

Your dad's cousing may be a good mechanic but what he sounds to be recommending is to do a complete upper end. If you do, that means you get new pistons and cylinders. It does nothing for the lower end which could have damaged a bearing or the rotary valve seals in the center of your crank.

At least with the SBT motor, it's like a brand new engine.

In the past few years (working on 3 now, I believe) I have installed 12 (working the 13th now) of their engines. Mainly the 717 and 787. The 587 is the older and smallest of Rotax 2 stroke PWC engines. I'd assume your model ski is 94 or older.

Before you here from a lot of people on this topic, go to their home page and read what they promise to do. They state the engine will meet OEM requirements and that all engines are either equipped with standard pistons or the first bore over. This is something you and eveyone else can hold them too. If not, they could be liable in a court of law.

I, for one am pleased with their service and their product. Many people who I have seen had problems, might have had the problems from a pre-existing condition, like lean running carbs or improper break-in. So, read their site, see what they offer. Then, hold them to it............
