IMG_1015.JPGHave 1999 GTX RFI that blew the motor due to the plastic oil injector piece that goes between oil inject. shaft and crank, broke. I received new motor from SBT today and they didn't check box on form that the cause was from lack of oil they said it was caused by lean conditions and had grey on piston. Is there something else that caused this motor to blow other then the plastic oil injector spinner. Which I can't believe is plastic. Thought if it was RFI I didn't need to worry about to lean issues. What needs checked before I put new motor back in it. I can turn oil injector pump with fingers and it puts oil out. Doesn't spin super easy but a kid could turn it with fingers. Any tips or things to watch out for in reinstall would be much appreciated. Thanks.

With the pictures of all that oil in your MAG housing I think you had something else going on like a blown front crank seal. I have never seen one of those oil pump drives fail but like anything mechanical it is possible.

Honestly if that was broken then your engine was running with no oil so yes, it would be extremely lean and seize just like if it was running out of fuel so their diagnosis is still sound.

And an RFI ski can still run lean from lack of fuel if an injector is bad/dirty or not enough fuel pressure. If it was running perfectly and then just locked up I would again suspect the oil pump drive.

Thanks for insight. I never thought about that. I was running wide open when it began to get slower and slower and then seized up. Brought it home and found that piece broken and one cylinder smoked. Was a SBT motor with only approx. 15 hours on it. Got a new motor and don't want to go through that again. Any tips for install is much appreciated. Thanks

I would get a new OEM oil pump drive and give it a go.
Make sure the oil is the correct API-TC full synthetic, Use a new oil filter, new 3/32" small oil lines from the pump to the intake and the pump adjusted correctly.

I know awhile back some had issues with the oil pump drives from SBT but I don't remember the details.
