Woody's Roo is a favorite stopping place on the Manatee River in Ellenton, FL

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our leader and mentor, Robert A. Woodring (Woody). For many of us he was the backbone of company and friend to us all. The legacy of Woody's River Roo and Lost Kangaroo will live on through his children and countless others he has mentored here over the years. Do not mourn the loss of a great man, but toast to the memories of a innovator and fantastic leader in the community! Woody's memory lives in us all and his influence demonstrated by our constant pursuit of perfection!

A private Celebration of Life will be held on Monday January 12th at 6pm, here at the restaurant. We will be closed to the public for the day and will reopen on Tuesday January 13th at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, Woody would appreciate donations to The Salvation Army or Hospice.

We thank you and look forward to seeing you soon here at the Roo with a View, and remember Woody is still smiling down at you!

Robert A. (Woody) Woodring

68, passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2015 with his loved ones by his side. He was the son of late Mary E. Woodring of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Christina (Gatanis) Woodring, his daughter Melissa & husband Kenny Widner, his son Robert Woodring & wife Jennifer, grandchildren Raven, William, Christopher, Nevada & Staysha as well as a great-grandson, Nolan. His siblings, Sherry Schwarz of Long Island, Mary Lou & Bernie Hartley of Clearwater, Hope & Mike Burns of Magnolia, Delaware. He was preceded by brothers Chester & Joseph Woodring. Woody was a self-made man with the gift of vision that enabled both he & his wife, Chris, to succeed in all their endeavors beginning with Hazlet Plaza Gulf in New Jersey from 1969-1987. After moving to Florida, they owned Woody's Waterfront, Lost Kangaroo, and most recent Woody's River Roo to mention just a few. Another of his successes was mentoring his children Melissa and Robert into becoming entrepreneurs like himself. Woody was an avid cyclist who enjoyed traveling in his RV. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity and his love of family & friends. A private Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Woody's River Roo on Monday January 12th @ 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army & Hospice will be appreciated.
