Well, I finally decided to replace my old reliable 1997 GSX 800 with a brand new 2016 RXT-X 300 in lava red/satin black. Went all out and put it on a brand new Triton LT trailer, figuring I'll have this machine another 19 years. Picked it up yesterday and haven't splashed it yet. Heard about the head bolt and coolant hose bulletin and was assured by the dealership that my machine was not one of the builds affected. I figured I'd check the hose clamps on the coolant lines tonight just in case. Low and behold, both clamps that go from the exchanger to the secondary thermostat were hand tight. I attempted to tighten them and they can't be tightened without stripping the clamp. Cheap ass clamps. This thing hasn't even seen a drop of water yet and now it has to go back to the dealer to have the clamps replaced. I'd do it myself but I'm sure they'd find a way to void my warranty. Looks like I'll be riding old faithful GSX this weekend. Frustrated....

Mine was the same way. I've got around 25 hours on it now with out a problem and hoping to keep it that way.

What's the problem with the head bolt? I haven't heard about that one...

One of the headbolts gets replaced with a shorter length bolt. I guess the longer bolt somehow partially restricted oil flow. It's service bulletin 2016-003. There is also a BUDS update for the machines affected. Pretty much just the early builds from what I'm told.

I think I may just go buy new higher quality stainless clamps and put them on myself. I'll have less anxiety knowing I did the repair correctly. Still can't believe I'm wrenching on a brand new $15k boat that hasn't even seen a drop of water yet.

You did the right thing. It's under warranty, let the dealership deal with it for now.

Post a few pictures of your ski when you get it back!

Thanks for the info on the head bolt. As for wrenching on the brand new ski I almost expect to turn a few wrenches on anything I buy these days. Not to say anything about the work force of today, but, when something as simple as a cheese burger can be made without mayo as requested maybe I'll have a little more faith.

Here are pics of the clamps. Notice the top one against the heat exchanger and the bottom one on top of the secondary thermostat. I would say it's imperative that if you own a new 300, check these clamps for tightness. Too many horror stories of new 300's blowing antifreeze all over brand new hulls, overheated motors and blown head gaskets. All over a 2 dollar part. I decided to take it to the dealer. I'll double check them once the repair is complete. It's a bitch to get to the heat exchanger one. Exhaust hose will have to be removed.
